Price Rules (Seasonal Pricing)

Use Price Rules to change product prices automatically on certain dates, days, or hours. For example, higher prices over Lebaran, a weekend price, or a happy hour discount every afternoon.

Open it from Products → Price Rules in the Dashboard. This feature is available on the Growth plan and above.

New feature

Price Rules launches with this release. The page may look slightly different from the description below, but it works the same way.

When to use price rules

  • peak season — villa rental prices go up 20% over the Lebaran holiday
  • weekends — a studio photo package costs Rp50,000 more every Saturday and Sunday
  • happy hour — all drinks are 15% off every day from 15:00 to 17:00
  • a special price for one product — lapis legit cake sells for Rp250,000 over Christmas and New Year

Without price rules, you would have to change product prices by hand before and after each period. With price rules, prices change and go back to normal on their own.

What a price rule contains

When the rule applies

Choose one:

  • a date range — for example 25 March to 5 April for the Lebaran season
  • certain days of the week — for example Saturday and Sunday

You can also limit a rule to between two times, for example 15:00–17:00. Dates, days, and times follow the shop time zone (WIB by default).

How the price changes

AdjustmentExampleNote
Fixed priceThe price becomes Rp250,000Only for rules that apply to a single product

Which products the rule covers

  • one product or one variant, or
  • all products in your shop

Priority

If several rules match the same product at the same time, the rule with the highest priority is used. The others are ignored, not added together.

Example: a "Weekend 10% up" rule and a "Lebaran 20% up" rule both apply on a Saturday during Lebaran. Give the Lebaran rule the higher priority so the 20% increase is the one used.

Which price wins

When a product has several kinds of price at once, Etalasse uses this order:

  1. Flash sale — always wins while the flash sale is running
  2. Price rule — beats the normal product discount
  3. Product discount — the discount you enter on the Products form
  4. Normal price

If the product also has wholesale tiers, the price charged is the cheaper of the result of steps 2 to 4 and the tier price. A price rule that raises prices is not added on top of the tier price.

So if you run a flash sale during the Lebaran season, customers still get the flash sale price.

Bookings and rentals

For Booking and Rental shops, the price follows the booked or rented date, not the day the customer places the order.

Example: a customer books a room on 1 March for a stay on 30 March. If 30 March falls inside the Lebaran rule's period, the customer pays the Lebaran price. See also Booking Calendar and Rentals.

What customers see

Customers see the price that currently applies right away in the online shop. When a price rule lowers the price, the normal price is shown struck through, so customers know they are getting a discount.

Tips

  • use priority for rules that can overlap, such as a holiday season and weekends
  • check the product price from the customer's side before the period starts
  • for short promos with a stock quota, use Flash Sales; for code-based promos, use Coupons
