Product Categories
Use product categories to organize the product catalog for both merchant operations and customer browsing.
This page has two tabs: Product Categories and Tags.
- The Product Categories tab has two panels: a Category Groups panel (group name, description, and sort order, with Add Group, Edit, and Delete actions) and a category table with Image, Category Name, Group, Description, and Notes columns.
- The Tags tab holds predefined product tags with Tag Name, Description, Sort Order, and Status (Active / Inactive) columns; these tags can be checked on the product form.
Common tasks
- create categories before adding many products — the form has Category Name (required), Category Group (optional), Description, Notes, and Image
- group similar categories into a Category Group and order them with the Sort Order field
- create reusable Tags that can be attached across products
- search categories by name, then open Detail, Edit, or Delete from a row's action menu
Best practices
- keep names clear and merchant-friendly
- grouping is one level deep: a category can belong to one Category Group, with no nested subcategories — avoid overlapping structures
- review categories before launch campaigns or large imports (product Bulk Upload references categories by name)
Typical workflow
- define the Category Groups and main category structure before bulk product creation
- create or refine categories for the real customer browsing journey
- assign products consistently through the Category field on the Products form
- review category clarity on Catalog or other public surfaces
Why categories matter
Category changes affect:
- dashboard organization
- product-entry consistency — the Category field is required on every product
- customer-facing storefront navigation
- campaign merchandising and featured collections
